Gerell L. Reed, 21, Remembered After Fatal Early-Morning Incident Inside Crashed Vehicle on Judy M. Gomez Highway in St. Thomas
Family and friends in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, are mourning Gerell L. Reed, a 21-year-old whose life ended early Thursday, August 27, 2026.
At about 2:49 a.m., the Virgin Islands Police Department’s ShotSpotter system reported several rounds along Judy M. Gomez Highway, and dispatchers soon received a report of a single-vehicle crash nearby.
Officers found a vehicle against a wall, with Gerell L. Reed inside unresponsive and wounded.
Emergency medical technicians evaluated Gerell L. Reed at the scene, found no signs of life, and pronounced the 21-year-old deceased there.
Authorities later notified next of kin, who formally identified Gerell L. Reed.
The loss marks the 15th such fatal case on St. Thomas in 2026 and raises the territorywide total across the U.S. Virgin Islands to 33 this year.
Gerell L. Reed will be remembered by loved ones as a son, sibling, and loyal friend whose absence leaves deep sorrow in the community.
