After an early hand injury, Ian Austin Frye learned piano as part of recovery, then studied music composition at Trinity University and earned a master’s in music education at Montana State.

For more than twenty-five years, Ian Austin Frye taught in classrooms and private spaces, performed alone and with bands, and shared music with students and listeners.

In 2024, Ian Austin Frye opened Heathens Music Lab, a studio created to welcome people into sound, learning, and confidence.
