Jason Klotz, Former Texas Longhorns Basketball Player And Houston-Area Standout, Remembered After Passing At 44
Jason Klotz, a Houston-area native and former Texas Longhorns basketball player, has passed at age 44, according to a report dated Aug. 28, 2026.
Klotz built a respected career from Klein Forest High School to the University of Texas, where the 6-foot-9 center played five seasons from 2000–01 through 2004–05.
Across 131 Texas games, including 27 starts, Jason Klotz averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds while becoming part of five NCAA Tournament teams.
He helped Texas reach three straight Sweet 16 rounds in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and he appeared in the 2003 Final Four game against Syracuse.
As a senior in 2004–05, Klotz served as team captain, shared co-MVP honors, and averaged 11.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Before Texas, he helped Klein Forest reach the 2000 Texas state championship game, and after college he played professionally in China, Japan, Spain, Turkey, Holland, and Uruguay.
