Simon Joseph Freyou Sr., Respected New Iberia Civil Engineer and Devoted Community Member, Dies at 83
Simon Joseph Freyou Sr. died peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the family home on Freyou Road in New Iberia, Louisiana, at age 83.
Born on January 7, 1943, in New Orleans, Simon later made New Iberia a lifelong home and built a respected career in civil engineering.
Simon worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisiana State Department of Public Works, Diamond Crystal Salt Mine, and Kingston Construction before founding Simon J. Freyou & Associates.
Simon contributed to Operation Impact in Downtown New Iberia, flood-control work on Avery Island, Port of Iberia projects, and Hurricane Andrew recovery efforts in 1992.
Simon also restored a 1904 Acadian-style home, rebuilt a 1970 Corvette, and helped shape Antique Rose Ville with careful skill and devotion.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, with Mass at 12:00 p.m.
