Todd Anderson, 61-Year-Old Sheldahl Mayor Remembered After Fatal Motorcycle Crash Near Polk City On August 22, 2026
Todd Anderson, the 61-year-old mayor of Sheldahl, Iowa, died Saturday evening, August 22, 2026, in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash along Highway 141 near Polk City.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 10,000 block of Iowa Highway 141, where Polk County deputy sheriffs responded and Anderson could not be saved.
Anderson, known locally as “Big Todd,” led the town of 287 residents after being elected mayor in 2025 and remained closely connected to neighbors through daily conversations and local service.
After surviving mantle cell lymphoma years earlier, Anderson focused on family, community, collecting Hot Wheels cars, working on a 1985 Fox Body Mustang GT, and riding motorcycles.
Sheldahl families also remembered Anderson for appearing each spring in an Easter Bunny costume while riding a motorcycle into the town egg hunt.
Funeral services were set for Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines as the community mourned a warm, active leader whose presence shaped small-town life.
