The South Carolina Highway Patrol said John Russell Kolb had left a vehicle after an earlier crash near mile marker 31 when a Toyota sedan hit them.
Officials said John Russell Kolb later passed away, and a rapid DNA test conducted Wednesday helped legally confirm the identity due to the severity of the impact.
The coroner’s office later identified the person as John Russell Kolb, and Buckcherry shared that the band’s tour bus was involved in the crash.
