Tyon Burney, 20, of Maryland, Remembered After Fatal U.S. Highway 11 South Collision Near Grifton, North Carolina
Tyon Burney, 20, of Maryland, died after a vehicle struck Tyon on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, on U.S. Highway 11 South near Blount Hall Road, just outside Grifton, North Carolina.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Tyon walked north along the highway when an oncoming vehicle hit Tyon, and emergency responders took Tyon to a hospital in critical condition.
Tyon later died from those crash-related harms, leaving family, friends, and loved ones to mourn a life that ended far too soon.
Troopers said Tyon wore non-reflective clothing and walked on the roadway at the time of the collision, and authorities said the driver involved will not face charges.
Those who knew Tyon will carry forward the memories, kindness, and love Tyon shared during 20 years of life.
