Willie H. Smith Jr., 78, Remembered After Fatal Macon Incident Involving White SUV At Woodland Drive Home
Willie H. Smith Jr., a 78-year-old Macon resident, died Thursday, August 27, 2026, after a white Chevrolet Equinox left Waverland Drive just before 10 a.m. and entered the roof area of a home in the 1900 block of Woodland Drive.
Authorities said Willie H. Smith Jr. had been traveling east toward the Woodland Drive intersection when the vehicle went off course.
Emergency crews responded after nearby residents reported the incident and found the SUV lodged in the structure.
No one inside the home or nearby reported injuries despite the severe damage to the residence.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office continues to review whether a medical emergency or mechanical problem may have contributed to the incident.
